The mission of the San Luis Obispo City-County Library is to provide materials and services to people seeking lifelong learning and recreation. In fulfilling this mission, the Library provides direct public access to the information resources of the Internet.
When accessing the Internet, Library users must comply with all Federal, State and local laws. Downloading or viewing of illegal materials (including child pornography), and sexually explicit images deemed by community standards to be obscene, is prohibited.
The San Luis Obispo City-County Library provides access to the Internet at dedicated computers or using the wireless network in some branches. Conditions of use vary (including time limits) and are posted in each branch library with public Internet access. Patrons use the Internet computing resources at their own risk.
The Library does not provide electronic mail (e-mail) accounts or software. E-mail is not supported by assistance from Library staff.
The San Luis Obispo City-County Library fully endorses the principles documented in the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement of the American Library Association. The monitoring of a child’s use of the Internet, like other Library materials and services, is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian. Realizing there may be material available on the Internet that some parents may not consider appropriate for their children, the Library requires that all individuals under the age of 18 and their parent or guardian have executed an Internet Use Agreement in order to receive Internet use privileges. Forms for this purpose are available at all Library circulation desks.
Almost anyone with a computer can make information available on the Internet. People and organizations may intentionally misrepresent themselves. The San Luis Obispo City-County Library has no control over the information you find. We cannot be held responsible for the content, quality, or accuracy of the information found on the Internet.
