2006/07 Library Mobiles Project
Help celebrate National Library Week 2007 while meeting California State Standards!
The Foundation for SLO County Public Libraries and countywide Friends of the Library groups are on a mission to enhance our youth’s connection with public libraries and foster lifelong learning. To that end, we are sponsoring the 2006/07 Library Mobiles Project.
The Project: Any individual, whole classes, small groups, book clubs, or any other group of interested students will create mobiles based on favorite books, authors, or characters. During National Library Week, April 15-21, mobiles will be exhibited within our public libraries and offered to the public through a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation for SLO County Libraries, which in turn, will help strengthen our public libraries, contributing to the good of our schools and local communities.
Learning and Fun Wrapped into One: Adaptable lesson plans designed to meet State Standards for Visual and Performing Arts have been prepared by Cal Poly’s Central Coast Center for Arts Education. These lesson plans will be provided to all interested K-12 educators. Transparencies, a CD-ROM, and other teaching materials are included. At your request November 1 - February 28, Cal Poly students and/or local artists will give demonstrations on mobile-making and assist you and your students in creating your own mobiles.
The Benefits: • Getting students excited about libraries, books, authors, and art. • Providing opportunities for cross-curricular connections. • Promoting reading, teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, art skills, communication skills, and engineering techniques. • Fulfilling State Standards in a fun and innovative way. • Collaboration involving K-12 schools, public libraries, local artists, and Cal Poly.
