Join "Make a Splash @ Your Library: READ!" this summer at your local County Branch Library and dive into the joy of reading.

The 2010 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult with programs, pre-school story-times, a reading club, and much more. Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on Saturday June 19th and it will finish August 21st.

Children grades 5 and under will make a splash by reading 10 chapter books on their own or 20 picture/beginning reader books with a family member or friend. Tweens and Teens will "Make Waves @ Their Library" by reading 10 books.

Everyone who completes their Reading Log will receive a free book and a canvas book bag featuring the graphics of the winners of last year's art competition. But wait, there's more! Each bag will be filled with stickers and certificates from places such as HomeTown Buffet, In and Out, LEGOLAND, Chili's, Round Table Pizza and more.

Irene Flores

This program is for the tweens and teens who love all things Manga and want to learn from the best. This is an opportunity to work with one of Tokyo Pop's most well known author/illustrators in the comfort of your library. Learn to draw and have your work critiqued.

Banana Slug String Band

For the last 20 years the Banana Slug String Band have been entertaining children with their strong environmental message craftily hidden in songs rich in catchy tunes, fabulous images and some fun silliness. Check out their cds from the library so you'll be ready to sing along! They are traveling down from Santa Cruz for two full days up and down the county.

Sarah McGrath

For a hands-on program overflowing with creativity Sara McGrath is for you! She will explore using nature and recycled materials for a 3d project in her bilingual art workshop for older children. For teens she will have a tee-shirt to book-bag workshop in Santa Margarita. Sara and her husband, Pedro, also do a bilingual story-time every month at the San Luis Obispo Library.

Hands on Earthquake Science

Kids ages 7-12 are invited to created their own earthquakes with 4-H SLO County Scientists. These hands on science programs are free but have limited space so please sign up ahead of time. Sponsored by Rita's Rainbows.
